|
Grades are provided as a general guide only:
If you have any doubt about your fitness for a
particular walk please contact the organiser or leader in
advance. Leaders may refuse to accept participants who in
their opinion are inadequately equipped or unfit.
You should also bear
in mind the distance of the walk, differences in terrain and
the possibility of bad weather which can make a walk more
difficult than planned.
If you're unsure of
your fitness level, try a short and easy walk first: it's
much better to find a walk a little too slow and easy than
to make yourself miserable and exhausted. |
Meeting Places/ Travel
All walks meet at
the time and place stated on the programme.
There are 3 meeting places, convenient for travelling to the walk start
location.
Please let the Walk Leader know if you intend to meet at the

Travel to Walk
Location
If you don't have your own transport you can be sure of a lift if you can get to our initial
meeting points
Travel is normally by private car, but non-drivers are
always welcome. We usually arrange lifts between the walkers
assembled at the meeting point. It is usually done
by mutual sharing arrangements from week to week.
We have re-established a voluntary fuel cost tariff for car
sharing, and suggest that each passenger supports the driver by
contributing towards the cost of the journey.
£1.50 for up to 40 miles
£2.50 for up to 60 miles
£3.50 for up to 80 miles
£4.50 for up to 100 miles

Clothing
Remember to wear or
bring clothing and footwear which is appropriate for the weather and the
terrain you are likely to encounter. Boots are recommended for all walks
and are essential for walking in the hills. Conditions can vary widely
between sheltered valleys and windswept moorlands and it can be wet and
cold even on summer days, especially in storms. Leaders have
discretion to refuse to take inadequately prepared walkers.
It is useful to have a change of clothing/footwear in the car in the
case the walk has been wet or muddy !
Food
For most walks it is advisable to carry sufficient food and drink for the
duration of the walk.
The walks are usually a full day out with stops for coffee/tea and a packed lunch break approximately half way.
For morning Pub Walks, lunch at the pub is optional.
Children
Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Dogs
Dogs may be allowed on walks at the leader’s
discretion. Please seek the leader’s agreement BEFORE the day of the
walk. Always ensure that your dog can be easily restrained, particularly
on farmland.
First Aid / Accidents
The leader will carry the group’s First Aid
Kit.
All accidents on group rambles should be reported to the secretary for
inclusion in the accident book.
Every care is taken in planning walks and events. However Ramblers do not accept any responsibility for personal injury or loss of property when attending any of our rambles or functions.
Participation in any event is entirely at an individual’s risk.
Please keep to the pace set by the leader, who will be governed by the
slowest member of the party. Do not go in front of the leader or
leave the party without informing him/her. If you experience any
difficulty inform the leader at once.
Help the leader make each event enjoyable.
